Saving Character - Conditions?

Hey!
I was wondering under what conditions your character is auto-saved to the vault?
Or if there is any chat command that will save a PC off?
Would resting save off a PC?

I ask because it seems the server crashed (or rebooted?) and recovered, but I lost about an hour's (EDIT: a Half hour's) worth of play time in that, and I could have rested or taken some action during that time to 'force' a save, if I knew what to do.


Otherwise I'll just have to remember to log off and log back on every once in a while!
