Travel and safety
The World of Karador is centered around the Kingdom of Lomar. Within the kingdom itself, guards patrol the roads, and the world is relatively safe. Adventure areas are spotted all over the place. Small dangers are frequent, great evils generally must be sought out. The world at large is basically safe. Thousands of peasants make a living farming in the civilized parts of the kingdom, and moving from town to town along major roads in civilized areas has only minor risk. That is not to say that the occasional raider may not decide to sack a local farm for supplies and stumble across players in the process. Areas that don't show signs of civilization are another matter. Outside of the kingdom, wild creatures and beings roam the lands and threats are ever present. Searching books libraries or talking in taverns can educate players about the surrounding. There will always be information available about places for one who looks. The single greatest resource for anyone who wishes to travel, is the Lomarian Map room. A map room is located in each of the five major cities and area maps are also available for purchase there. Recently the king has granted a large donation to improve and renew the resources within.
Exploration Bonus - Every time a Player enters an area he has never before visited, the Player earns a 15 xp bonus.
Traveling on Foot - Roads are well maintained across the kingdom and are patrolled by the Royal Lomarian Guards. That is not to say that they are fully free of danger, but that help is usually only a short run away.
Mounts - Many towns have horses for sale that can help a player increase his traveling speed. Horses cost 100 gold coins and can be stabled for a cost of 5 gold coins.
Flying - Characters, who are capable of flight, can travel at increased speed. Humanoid characters receive a special cloak, that upon equipping the cloak, a speed bonus is applied as well as a +50 bonus to jump. One can not equip another cloak and fly however. Dragons have a feat that confers the same ability. Those flying may also avoid pit traps.
Boats - Traveling by boat is also common among those cities that have docks. Some boats have no charge for the player to ride. Others require a fair to be purchased from the harbor master. For travel, across some rivers or small lakes, a row boat may be purchased. The row boat is reusable and some adventures have claimed to have seen a magically lighter boat.
Lomarian Carriage Ways - Carriage rides are available, to transport a player from one to city to the next city, on the the road for 10 gp per trip.
