A brief interview with those in town shows that the population has been decimated. Within the last few years the town has been sieged many times by various factions. Those who rode under the white banner came and demanded that the men of the town leave the town lest all within perish. The elderly and children were left behind. As well as the halflings in town who were deemed only Half men by Ayax the warlord of the north.
Since then the Reeve formed a Militia with the remaining women in town and trained them to defend themselves and the town.
Here is a census of the town as I could find it.
