The initial game mechanics of Dungeons and Dragons is great at many things. But from the stand point of a common cinematic/literary a dramatic plot point I think it lacks in one area. Something I like to call "the Pin". As in when a gun fighter in a western or a cop show has the draw on their opponent, just as in sword play duel when someone has their blade, be it a dagger or a long sword at the throat of their (of course assuming humanoid) opponent and can take the attack at any moment. This moment is great for; quipy one liners, villainous monologues, etc.. I think it be great if we could find a way to add it to NWN.
Maybe something akin to a called shot.? Any thoughts, ideas?

that sort of sounds like an assasins death attack isnt it called? or coupe de grace, but you'd somehow need to add the 'pin' bit, maybe using a KD type incapassitation thats persistant untill broken/move. Just brainstorming here, no idea how you'd do it script wise or all that.

I'd imagine it could be done by some sort of trigger that turns the PC to immortal once they get to 1hp, do the quip, then immortality turns off.

Yeah, thats a sound suggestion Loo. That would probably be an ideal way to do it, though I'm not an nwn script expert so I dont know how hard that would be to code.
It would be nice if the current PRC bleeding/death system was applied to npc's (or is it? doesnt seem like it) because then you could roleplay this to an extent... once they go down and are not dead but bleeding you stop attacking, give them the ol' "hasta la vista" line and then resume your attack which almost always is gonna finish them barring really good damage resistance. Maybe modifying this system would be easier, despite not being as cool.

I does kind of remind me of an old Dragon magazine article called En garde.
Maybe it doesn't have to be complicated at all. If a DM wants to let a NPC villian have a chance to say something pithy. They can just use the pause feature, if I remember correctly the chat still works.
Thanks for all the feedback.
