Hey all,
I am wanting to start a campaign at the start of the year and want to see who would like to contribute ideas for it... The idea being if you want to play a certain style of campaign than we can get that to work...
Anything post will be changed to fit the whim of the dm but It would be good to tell stories that you are interested in... I am thinking twice a month on sundays.

Is this a collaboration with another DM like Oak or just yourself at the helm? I'll have to think about this. Right now I'm in a lot of neck/shoulder pain so I think I'm going away from the computer for a bit...

Here is a radial idea but could be epic.
How about a campaign designed around a series of adventures where the party is made up of evil (or those willing to work with evil types) and they (through their adventures) set in motion a great evil something that (by the time their campaign is over) seriously threatens Lomar or a lot of Karador. Then, after the evil is set in motion, a group of good heroes will come on the scene and partake in a series of adventures to find/destroy/hunt down/kill the great evil and set things right again.
Too epic perhaps? I suppose so but I thought it sounded like a good "Yin/Yang" type of thing.

Sounds interesting! I'm on my phone at the moment so I won't type too much here but I think a campaign could be based off the Fear Mythos.

I like Stings idea to involve both evil and good characters since people often enjoy playing one more than the other. I would be happy to play in something like that. I would play any kind of character.
I think a different way to involve all alignments of characters would be to have them reluctantly have to work together (at the same time, instead of seperate groups of good and evil.) Perhaps some force of utter destruction is set loose on the land, or the beginnings of an apocalypse. Maybe something similar to the spell-plague since the world seems to still be remotely tied to Toril.
Of course this could end up creating some awesome role playing experiences, however it could also create some real life hostility between players. If an evil character was to say stab a good character in the back for their own gain, or a good character refused to heal a dying evil character's wounds, people may take it personally. It would be challenging to play while still maintaining friendly relations out of game.
To combat this, maybe each character has some sort of soul-linked item or bonded in some way to a God that is needed to defeat whatever apocalyptic threat faces the world. That way every character is necessary and to murder one or not save another would be the ultimate defeat of the team. If we had 9 people interested in playing we could each represent one alignment/god. If not, something else.
Anyway... its just an idea to get the ball rolling.

This is another brainstorming for the campaign... just my thoughts, please suggest any changes or use my ideas and make a better (more original) one. Its hard to come up with cataclysmic storylines that havent been done. It may be too epic of scale as Sting pointed out to do a campaign like this.
The old Gods, thought utterly destroyed in the War of the Gods, actually survived in essence only. This force of divine power over the years has lain dormant, mixing and growing in strength.
Now, cosmic anomalies have caused this force to stir. Though itself soulless and unthinking it has begun to permeate living, and dead, creatures alike. Taking their own bodies and souls hostage like some sort of parasite and creating an army of destruction bent on only one thing... spreading.
The people of Lomar have begun calling this phenomenon the Soul Plague. For while the newly taken retain all their skills and abilities, eventually those whose souls are consumed are utterly destroyed, their lifeforce scattered into Oblvion. The gods in their infinite wisdom have realized they must reluctantly work together, lest they lose their followers and thus their own power. With no Gods, the world would be completely erased. Thus each devotes some of their chosen to warding off this swarm of destruction. They believe that this band of heroes, each with his or her own outlook, and each tied to a God of different spheres of power, may as one unravel the mysteries of this plague and reverse it.
The gods would come themselves, however, their power is too diminished already. For while some would work together, at the gods' bidding, most lifeforms have abandoned the gods and are forced into a state of utter panic, thinking to raise great armies and amass as much power for themselves in effort to ward of this horde on their own. Anything in their way is merely an obstacle to their own salvation, and must be destroyed.

Lots of good ideas here. A few thoughts to pass around. First Me and Oak will be rotating dming and playing. This works for us since we will both dm but once a month. It prevents burn out and lets us both play as well, which we both enjoy. We have considered switching off on a single play character as well so that we could cut down on the rotating core players. It is my hope that we will be able to tell a more roleplaying specific story. One of the chief reasons we want to tell the same campaign is so that we will have a non changing player base. Having a good campaign is like telling a good story. Very rarely can you find a good story where the main character keeps changing. So that is step one. Step two is finding a way for the characters to get along. We have some players who only want to play evil characters and some who only want to play good. Finding a way for them to get along that does not seem forced is a tough thing. Really this is problem as I think we would lose players over the need to be evil for the first leg of the campaign. Plus if the doom is failed to be stopped it will make a lot work on my part... There is also the matter of scope. While several of us have players in their stable that are 12th level or more... many do not. So we should also look at starting power levels? We should think about whether it should be for existing characters or completely new characters. I will post some ideas of my own a little later... but the discussion is helping a lot.

Yeah what I was suggesting would be evil and good at the same time. I don't think they have to necessarily get along...just not kill each other and achieve the goal. So each holds some "key"
I put the bit in at the end because I thought having some other enemies that aren't part of the actual "plague" would be good for low levels and gradually introduce plot. You could have orc warlord s, evil wizards, anything you want, they would just start to unveil the main plot

Okay here is my idea for the start of a campaign, or the initial start of one.
Keep in mind that both Oak and I would like to keep your character motivations and background between us. So Limit what you share with the other players. We are hoping for more character background and direction.
All of the players are the children (Biologically or adopted) of a once great adventurer who earned the title of Thane. Being an old man his children have gone forth into to the world to find their own fortunes. His children all very different each went down a different path.
The Thane as he was known by many was known far and wide for his jack of all trades nature and retired from his adventuring some years ago to settle and raise his children. Thanes are made not born unlike other royalty often due to some great service that was performed. They are land owners, given land and those that live on it usually as a reward. The Thane left Thel Dinge Many years ago managing it from afar.
Now news of his sudden and untimely death has reached his children and they must come back to attend his funeral. Of course there is the matter of his inheritance as well as taking over his responsibilities as well as investigating his strange and abrupt end. What is to become of Thel Dinge? Or the Thanes reported great wealth?

This sounds like brand new character territory here. I'll have to think about this...

Yes brand new characters who may be event locked... you can share the basics of your character but we will come up with a few questions about your characters wants and background later... that is, if this is to the liking of everyone. One of the things I liked about E.D/ pruvia campaign was the way people were able to transform the keep. So similiar things will be able to happen with Thel Dinge. If you can convince a blacksmith to move to town that will generate more goods to buy and sell. if you discover a special type of fish that you could bring to market... the whole economy of the town will improve

"if you discover a special type of fish that you could bring to market... the whole economy of the town will improve"
Sounds like some exploration will be in order. We'll send out an away team as soon as we get clearance....
So....where is "The Dingle".....I mean "Thel Dinge" in relation to everything else?
What race is the old man? I'm guessing most of his children would be the same race (blood relatives).

Thel Dinge is between Port alton and Portsmith on the northern coast. It is far to the north and things will likely be a little colder there. As far as the Thane's race we have not determined that yet because we wanted things to be open to discussion. The only thing I can say is that he will not be a gnome... because I hates them... Hates them forever

Will we be able to travel to this new location (assuming we don't start there)? I wonder if this could turn out to be the 'connecting rod' that allows overland travel to Portsmith rather than by boat exclusively.
