I don't remember if I posted this in the past and it was lost when the forums crashed and I can't remember if it was/is an issue then or now but I'm re-posting a text from the Harry Potter forums page that could also be an issue with us. I know I have 1 character that could be affected if and when we ever copy the server over to another computer/hard drive. Here is what was posted:
"I am in the process of upgrading the hard drive on the server. I have concerns about the age of the current hard drive (it's an old IDE drive), in fact I'm honestly surprised it's lasted this long. The upgrade is to a very fast SSD, and should reduce any server lag that still may exist.
Unfortunately, the servervault is not transferring due to accent characters in many of the file names. Apparently NWN writes out files with illegal characters in the file names, making it impossible to even access them through the OS. Long story short, I have had to leave the servervault on the old hard drive to keep the affected characters from being deleted.
If the hard drive ever fails in the future, I do not believe that the affected character files will survive, because they are not getting properly backed up (because the OS cannot access the filenames). I have a list of affected characters and usernames. For now, everything is still good, but in the future I'm not sure what can be done.
I suggest that no one use accent marks in character or player names in the future."
If this is not an issue, well, I would know myself but if anyone does have an answer to this as far as our server goes, please post what you know here so it can be addressed (even if it is being addressed again).
