I used to play on this server, until I got a new laptop that was too feeble to run it! That was back in 2007. I am finally having an actual game-running desktop computer built because I am done with traveling.
My main character back then was a high-level cleric named "John Prester". I recall having some great adventures on this server.
If all goes well, perhaps I can get back into Karador again next month. I will probably need a LOT of help figuring out what kinds of files to load on my computer, so prepare to be worn out with technical questions. The new computer will be running Windows 7, I hope that will work.
Paul
EDIT: Must have been 2006, I found this on the timeline: 55,073 <oct 2006> John prestor, aeronca, Sir Drake argente, henderfield, Gunther, complete a quest for the king and are all made Thanes by royal order. I also recall a mighty struggle to kill a silver dragon, only to find its only treasure was dragon blood. We all made a big deal out of it!

Hey Paul Long time no see... welcome back! The fearsome white dragon of the north still has all that treasure for you. Aethiope is still around, though you did have some who came crashed at your place for a year or two. You might have to do some cleaning. Your old characters are also on the server still.
we have added the prc 3.5 as well as cep 2.4 to the world so there are more spells and races than you can shake a stick at.
Several people here use windows 7 so they will have tips for you.
Good to hear from you again!

Seems like many of the older players are returning all of a sudden. I wonder if it's a coincidence or not...
You might want to re-level your character in Hometown to take advantage of the new feats available.

It's like Deja-Vu all over again! Welcome Back, Paul is it? Guess I only know of the legendary John Prester. Quite a lot has happened in Karador since you've been away, its bigger than ever and many of the areas you've been to have gotten larger as well as many additions. Harkker has done one heck of a job keeping things going, and a few others like Stingray have done a lot of work as well. Give a night or two for the downloads (can be done in one sitting with minimal bed sores) but then you'll be golden. Anything I or any of us can do to help you get reacclimated just hollar.

Alright, got the new computer with a super graphics card and all that. I tried installing the game by just sticking the discs in the machine. I found some bugs, so I decided to uninstall it and try again, this time using some advice for Windows 7 I found on other forums.
Next mistake: I clicked the "Unistall NWN" button. Apparently it didn't really uninstall all of the game. Everytime I put in Disc One to install the game, it asks for the Play Disc. The computer still thinks I have NWN installed. How do I hunt down the remnants of this game on my computer and get rid of them so I can re-intstall the game?

Look in program files (x86) possibly and remove any directories/files there?

I got all the update and haks installed. I was even able to get onto the server. All the old characters were there! I did run into some issues once I arrived there:
1. I could hear sound effects but no music
2. The video was very choppy. Are there any recommended settings for video/sound? This is a brand new computer, so I am sure the video card and drivers are more than enough to run the game smoothly.
Any ideas on how to cure these two issues?

Good news, I can hear the music now. That is some great "start an adventure" music there. Great stuff!
I turned off shiny water. I also set the game to run in Windows 7 compatability mode. I have read that running the game in "windowed" mode helps; any guidance on how that can be done?

I think I have it fixed now. I followed your suggestions first. Then, I changed the sound settings and that's what finally fixed the video choppiness. Thanks for the help!
Too bad I work on the weekends; my re-discovery of Lomar will have to wait a few more days.

Welcome Back!
We usually do events on sunday nights if ever you find yourself getting off work around that time. Good to have you back... There were some people crashing at your pad for a couple of years... so your furniture may have moved around. There are a lot more dungeons these days inside the kingdom. so if you are starting a new character you can find a lot of new stuff.

Recovered from the old forum files- john prester's background' 'Hear and believe: I, John Prester, was the Lord of Lords, surpassing all under heaven in virtue, in riches, and in power; seventy-two kings paid me tribute.; In far-off Aethiope my magnificence ruled, and my land reached towards the sunrise over the wastes nigh unto the gates of Paradise. My land was the home of elephants, great apes, camels, crocodiles, baluctheriums, and birds with beaks like axes; griffins, tigers, ducks, hyenas, wild horses, wild oxen, and wild men also.; It was the home, too, of the phoenix and the behir and the catoblepas and all manner of strange living animals. Seventy-two provinces were tributary to me, as I made war on the all whose lands were near me. Whenever I rode at the head of my ever-conquering army, a plain wooden symbol of Avar, without gold or gems about it, was borne before me in order that I should meditate on the true source of my strength; also a golden bowl filled with earth to remind me of that whence I sprung and that to which I must return; but besides these there is borne a sliver bowl full of gold coins as a token to all that I was the Lord of Lords. But many of my new-caught subjects and their Kings refused to acknowledge Avar.; They were sullen pagans, blasphemous and cruel.; One such King asked for my daughter’s hand in marriage. Angered that this lowly heathen vassal would dare make such a request, I denied him and sent my army to chastise him. When this King learned of the approach of my army, he led his people into open revolt. He was soon joined by the rest of the pagan Kings and people of other provinces, who cared not about any marriage but saw only an opportunity to strike at me and my place as Lord of Lords.; In the war that followed, the pagans emerged triumphant.; The palace of John Prester was burned; the faithful of the kingdom were slain or enslaved, and the altars of Avar were smashed and pagan idols set in their place.; I was wounded six and twenty times with saber and lance before escaping. It was Avar’s will that I should be thrown down and humbled and stripped of my powers as a priest-king.; Long then did I wander, searching for a land that both knew Avar and was beyond the reach of the pagan Kings.; Thus I, John Prester, came to Lomar.; I traveled first under other names and in other guises; until I was sure the pagan Kings had no knowledge of my new abode.; I then declared myself openly and made public dedication to the service of Avar, although I have told no man or woman of my origins or my intentions.; It has now pleased Avar that I should grow in power and wealth, but now I fight not for earthly conquest but with a humble spirit and desire to serve my brethren - the many brave adventurers who fight daily against evil in Lomar – and do what Avar bids me do. One day, if I am granted strength enough for my mortal shell to bear the burden, my power and wealth will grow great enough that I can call for a great crusade.; On that day I will leave Lomar forever and return to my beloved Aethiope with a mighty host of warriors and priests behind me. I, John Prester, shall ride at their head to the lands far to the south, farther than any man of Lomar has ever traveled.; There we shall free whoever remains of my long-suffering people from the barbarous heathens who rule by the yoke and the lash.; Their pagan altars will be thrown down and a just and rightful reign of Avar shall be established and abide there.
