My story begins with my father Buri"the bull “ shad Ali. To say my father is a good fighter is like calling an ogre smart. The man is a supreme fighter, with very few peers. My siblings and I were weend on his exploits, every night at supper when we were younger our father would fill our heads with tales of far away lands and epic battles with dragons, demons and all sorts of monsters. At these times I envisioned my self riding along with him and grandpa Tordek shad ali. A man so skilled at the art of war I think up till this day my father feels that he’s not half the man grandpa was. I often would ask my father about his father, but all would get is a forced smile and a pat on the head.
I spoke earlier of siblings and of those I have three. My oldest brother Torven, whom apparently even if not spoken of out loud is my father’s favorite, he seems to be a chip of the old
Block. Father even said one day while we trained [training how to fight is mandatory in the shad ali house hold] that my brother may be even better than him in years to come. I don’t know about
Better but he’s extremely good. My sister Winter. Born A year or so after Torven but by the way she acts you would think she is the eldest. I don’t know why but I think she gets some special joy out of nit picking him which I cant see how since he rarely seems to loose his temper with her.
Winter is what one would call a free spirit or a child of the wild. Winter and I would often go into the woods on our own for hours on end, it seemed to me like so much fun to be away from home on adventures in the woods away from the city and village nearby. My sister always seemed far more at home in these woods than I ever saw her at home. Our mother Aleen would often scold her for not being a proper lady and extol the virtues of being a lady so that she may marry a handsome prince. This never worked on her but at times I would see that she would compromise
And not sully her self so much in the woods for my mothers’ sake. And last on the list is Jono. My other brother. He trained with us, but with no zeal or aptitude for it. He never ventured into the woods with Winter and I. and yet torven and he got along quite well, not to say I didn’t as well but they seem to hold something unique to them self. I believe that mother asked torven to look out for Jono and he did. My brother Jono was the learned one. No matter were he went or what he did there was a book not far from him, even at the supper table he read which at times would exasperate our father while he told his tales.
Time moved on and we started to grow. Torven now a young man set out into the world to find his on way. My mother cried, but she understood. My sister winter for the first time was very nice to him as she cried and kissed him goodbye. Jono and I hugged him at the same time with tears streaming from our cheeks. Torven walked away and I have not seen him since. I have heard tales of some of his deeds, and I hope to match them one day. Soon after my sister winter started spending more and more time in the woods and less at home I would often go to the woods with her, but the joys and mysteries of the woods soon faded in me. At the same time the call seemed to get stronger for her. Some nights I would here her and father argue at some length about this. Soon after that winter announced she was leaving home. Father seemed not to be surprised by this; he simply gave her a bag of coins, kissed her forehead then walked away. My mother made a tremendous amount of noise as she cried and pleaded with winter not to go. This did not change my sister’s mind but it gave her a small pause as she shed tears with my mother on the floor. At first light my sister said her goodbye and walked of into the woods.
Unlike torven my sister would visit from time to time. And catch up on family events and sell some wild roots to the local doctor. After a while those visits became far and few in-between. Until they stopped[as far as I know].now I was all alone. Jono not soon after winter left home he became the apprentice to a wizard whom took a liking to him , which was fine with my father for I believed the wizard had been on adventures with father so he trusted him with jono. Being home alone for me was like hell, mother watched over me like I was made of glass. Father would all ways tell me that he wanted me to become a great man of influence and wealth. When I spoke of being a warrior like torven he would shake his head no and dismiss it which always angered me. I would run away to the woods in search of my sister quite a lot with no luck what so ever. once as I searched for my sister I happened along a ranger in the forest, tall slim of Elvin decent he told me his name was fahlos and that he was not of these woods and that he was passing through. I sat at his campfire and eat with him as we talked. The next morning we foraged for breakfast fahlos was surprised how well I handled my self in the woods and asked if any in my family were rangers I answered no and we pressed on. A few days later fahlos moved on . I would later see fahlos again from time to time in the woods were we would talk of his travels and I would speak of my desire to strike out on my own. Fahlos I and grew a friendship unlike the one I had with torven. I care for my brother greatly but it seemed we competed for my fathers attention and since I was the youngest I often ended up the looser in this Endeavour. At this point I was about to enter manhood and I begged my father to let me prove my self to him, and as usual he refused with my mothers staunch support.
One day and old friend of my fathers came knocking. This was not so unusual since my father knows many people , it was his friend Baltos krin. The man had a look of wild despair in his eyes. he looked at my father and whispered some words to him. As the man turned and walked away it seemed like the blood had drained from fathers face and the look in his eyes still haunt me till today. That look was fear. An emotion which I taught was not none to him. he whispered something in her ear she dropped to her knees and began to pray aloud with tears streaming her face. In the next few days father began to sell his land and holdings and started packing the family wagon to leave. Every time I asked he would just tell me to keep packing. The night before my father and mother left I spoke to my father at length about my life, and how I have reached the age of adulthood and I would leave with them he looked at me with his steely eyes to see if this would intimidate me, it did not he saw the eyes of my grandfather and older brother in me.. he dropped his head and said “ok” and went of to bed. Early the next morning father gave me some coin, told me be strong and shook his head and smiled. I ran of wild and free, so happy I was I didn’t say goodbye to my mother.
Life on my own was hard the first year I took odd jobs on farms to scrape up some money to buy a sword. After that I began with killing wolves and hyenas raiding farms. As my time went on my taste for adventuring grew more. I would travel with any pack that had coin and needed a good sword arm which were many. One day while on the road, I over heard mention of fahlos over in a town of port Alton . I was so happy to hear of my friend that I boarded the next ship to port Alton .when I arrived, I asked around until I was pointed in his direction. I eventually found fahlos and we’ve been adventuring ever since. I still hold hope that one day I will be re united with my family …. And that’s my story …good on yah
